Easy Privacy Policy Generator 250x300 JPG

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! Go to the bottom of the post!

You should always be sure to put a "Privacy Policy" page on your website, and the Easy Privacy Policy WordPress plugin makes this an absolute snap. It's a simple, single-purpose plugin that generates a great "legal boilerplate" policy page and allows you to customize it for your site. You can get a copy of the plugin code at this page or you can download it off the WordPress.org Plugins Site.

The search engines like to see a certain default set of pages on your site, like a Privacy Policy, a Terms and Conditions, Disclaimers, a Site Map, and a Contact Us page. Neglecting to add these page can negatively impact your search engine rankings for all search engines, not just Google. There are several excellent free WordPress plugins that make it simple and easy to comply with these requirements. We will be doing a series of short reviews on our favorites, and we've chosen the Easy Privacy Policy plugin to do first.

Once you have installed and activated the plugin, a new entry will appear in the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard. Go under Settings and click on the Easy Privacy Policy entry. The Privacy Policy settings all appear on a single page. You just enter the name of your site in the "@blogname" field and your support email for the site into the "@email" field. Then, you can just scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Update Privacy Page" button.

As you can see in the video, the Easy Privacy Policy settings page is divided up into 6 sections:

  • Secton 1: Basic Privacy Statement
  • Secton 2: Google Adsense and DART Cookies
  • Secton 3: Childrens Privacy Policy
  • Secton 4: Personal Info Collection
  • Secton 5: Links to Other Sites
  • Secton 6: Changes to the Policy

You can turn any of these sections on or off by setting a checkbox for the section before you hit the "Update" button at the bottom. You can also edit the text in those 6 sections if you don't like any of it, but we have been perfectly happy accepting the default wording for all of our sites, and Google seems happy with it. It should work great for any of your sites, as well.

UPDATE!!! Folks, it has come to our attention that the original author of the Easy Privacy Policy plugin has removed it from his site and it looks like it is no longer available on the WordPress.org plugins site. Now, this plugin was released by its author under the GPLv3 license, which means that we are perfectly free to distribute a copy of the plugin to our members if we wish. For now, we are going to do that so you can grab a copy here. But we will be looking for a replacement for the plugin both to use on our own sites and to recommend to our members.
